Links I saved this month | November 2020
This month's links are all about journalism and freedom of the press.
I am strongly against hate speech and the proliferation and spreading of fake news, and I support freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
In spite of what certain websites and groups would say, the two concepts not only can, but should coexist in any healthy and free society.
Here are some useful links and resources to learn more about freedom of the press:
Reporters Without Borders . Based in Paris, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is an independent NGO with consultative status with the United Nations, UNESCO, the Council of Europe and the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF). They maintain on their website a yearly press freedom index, with a short explanation of why each specific country has obtained a certain score, as well as a barometer showing data regarding violations of press freedom, including how many journalists are attacked, imprisoned or killed each year.
Freedom of the Press Foundation . More specific to the US, this is a non-profit organization that protects, defends, and empowers public-interest journalism in the 21st century. They also have a [Freedom of the Press Tracker]https://pressfreedomtracker.us/) that is specific to the USA, as well as some Guides on how to be mindful and protect our own privacy.
Snopes . I already linked this, but I think it's an extremely important tool to verify claims and “news” reported on tv or websites.
Thank you for reading, I hope you find these links interesting and useful.
